New York in the 1970s had a gang problem. No not the Crips or the Bloods - the city had their own gangs.
According to a police document, put out in 1974, Brooklyn had more than 48 different street gangs. And it seemed like every ethnic group had its own gang.
For example, police identified a Jewish street gang in Crown Heights named B'nai Zaken.
Law enforcement also identified a group of gay gang members in Bushwick called "Homoside Laws."
