"Madden" Shooting Survivor Is Suing EA Sports For "Not Providing A Safe Space"

A survivor in the Madden 19 is suing a host of negligent parties.

Jacob Mitich, who survived last weekend's Madden 19 tournament shooting after getting hit twice by rapid gunfire, is suing EA Sports for negligence. The game developer which unveils a new Madden title each year, was also responsible for recruiting the talent pool gathered in Jacksonville, Florida. The tragic shooting incident was but one of many incidents of this nature to literally unfold on social media and Twitch, some of which still exists as a living relic.

Mitich who is represented by the law firm Morgan & Morgan, presented his class action suit to the Circuit Court of the Fourth Judicial Circuit in Duval County, Florida. "Like many of his friends, Jacob Mitich traveled to Jacksonville last weekend to do what he loved. He trusted the event host and organizers, and believed that he was walking into a safe space," attorney James Young attested in a written statement. "That trust was shattered when shots rang out in an overcrowded, since-shut-down, non-permitted space."

 

Mitch is also suing the bar which housed part of the event, the related Chicago Pizza & Sports Grille, as well as the management companies of the Jacksonville Landing area of downtown Jacksonville. As a registered eSports professional, Mitich is seeking compensation for the time he will miss recovering from his injuries. The lawsuit can read in its entirety here.

With so many of her friends and the most prominent entertainers attending her funeral today, the event was billed more as a celebration of the diva's life than a sad spectacle of her loss. With performances by many and a line-up of pink Cadillacs welcoming people to the Detroit venue, Aretha's farewell was extravagant, reminding everybody of her status as one of the top soul stars of all time. One member of the audience, Gladys Knight, was particularly touched by the funeral service since she recently bonded with Aretha over sharing the same disease. 

Another legend in the game, Gladys Knight, surprisingly revealed that she had met up with Aretha Franklin recently and the two discussed how they both had pancreatic cancer. Knight was being interviewed as she reminisced on the good times she's had with the Queen of Soul, telling a story of the time she was so excited to stumble upon her friend "ReRe" at a hotel. She speaks in a very upbeat manner before getting sentimental, adding, "We shared the fact that we had the same disease."

Machine Gun Kelly has been at the receiving end of two diss tracks today from G-Eazy and Eminem. His beef with G-Eazy seems to surround his speculation that the "No Limit" rapper stole his swag and Halsey. However, G-Eazy's since addressed it in his new track, "Bad Boy" but it looks like this beef will likely simmer down after today. Eminem also took issue with the Bad Boy rapper on Kamikaze cut, "Not Alike" but it looks like MGK might just be happy that Em acknowledged his existence.

Machine Gun Kelly took to Instagram to respond to Eminem's diss on "Not Alike." The rapper is seen playing the exact part of the song where Em fires shots and pops a bottle of champagne while screaming with what seems to be joy. Clearly, he isn't that mad about Eminem's words.

Eminem's diss seems to stem from MGK sliding in the comment section of his daughter's Instagram.

"But next time you don’t gotta use Tech N9ne if you wanna come at me with a sub-machine gun/ And I’m talking to you but you already know who the f*** you are, Kelly/ I don’t use sublims and sure as f*** don’t sneak-diss/ But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie," Em raps on the song.

G-Eazy may have perfectly summarized how both he and Eminem feel about MGK on "Bad Boy."

YG's Stay Dangerous is still hanging on for dear life in a lot of people's musical rotation, which in reality is no small feat considering the heavy dose of material we've been presented with this summer. YG hopes to breathe new life into the project by releasing a documentary of the same name. The 20-minute doc explores the rationale behind his every decision, not only as an entertainer, but as an increasingly conscious human being. The doc also delves into the enigmatic work relationship between him and DJ Mustard, a producer whose sound is inextricable from YG's brand.

While Stay Dangerous doesn't inherently set out to examine gang subcultures, the arrangement of stimuli (seeing red) does beckon to something YG had a hand in arranging from the start. YG's "hollywood" comrades such as A$AP Rocky and Jhené Aiko try to decipher the compton rapper's terminology. You'll have to watch the full 20 to see how they fare, I won't spoil you the fun.

YG's penchant for cuss-word prepositions have become the norm, after gangsterism became a stylistic device. YG like anyone with a set of variants to chose from, is knowingly stuck between an objective reality and an illusion, one he had some part in creating. The three names they reported failed to woo are Portland's Damian Lillard, Boston's Terry Rozier, and Charlotte's Kemba Walker. Brandon Knight's departure leaves the with Shaquille Harrison and rookie Elie Okobo as the sole backup options for combo guard Dev Booker. As it stands one might be thrust into a starting role, likely the rook. The other option is to play Josh Jackson out of position, but that could hinder his development at his preferred position.

Kemba Walker's availability is still being questioned even though he has reiterated his desire to stay in Charlotte. Terry Rozier is valuable chip in Boston's rotation, but some think he's grown too pricey for the team long term. Damian Lillard on the other hand, is not a simple add. To acquire his services, Portland would be looking for a suitable franchise cornerstone in return.

Lamar Odom recently announced that he will resume his basketball career in China, and judging from the numerous workout posts on his instagram account he is taking the return seriously. That said, he is still finding the time to mix in some pleasure with his basketball business.

According to Page Six, the former NBA star was out in Miami last night partying into the wee hours of the morning with a group of "beautiful women," three or four of whom he ended up leaving with.

"The former NBA star made a beeline for Story Nightclub’s DJ booth at around 1:30 a.m., before making his way to a private table that was “filled with … beautiful women,” an insider told Page Six."

"We’re told Odom greeted singer Trey Songz, who was hanging out at the table next to his, and then chatted with the women at his own table — all the while dancing and drinking booze," Page Six reports.

“He left the club with three or four of the women” at 3:30 a.m., according to a different spy.

Earlier in the evening, Odom, 38, was seen sipping tequila cocktails at Miami mainstay Upland with a pal, the first source said.

Odom recently made an appearance on Kevin Hart's Youtube show "Cold As Balls," during which he revealed to Hart how he had 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma following his 2015 overdose at Dennis Hof's Love Ranch South in Pahrump, Nevada. Odom, 38, tells Hart, "All my doctors that see me say I'm a walking miracle." 

In speaking about the near fatal overdose, Odom also discussed Khloe Kardashian's role in his recovery, and opened up to Hart about his struggle with anxiety and finally finding his happy place.

Clint Dempsey's current club, MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, announced today that he will be stepping down from U.S. Men's National Team duty effective immediately. His 43 appearances in World Cup play (qualifying included) are the most ever in men's team history. Furthermore, his tally of 57 goals for his country ties him with Landon Donovan for top spot all-time.

Clint Dempsey, aged 35, made 14 appearances for his club this year before an intervention by team doctors over a lingering heart condition. Seattle as always, are right on pace to seal a playoff spot in the uber-competitive Western Conference. "After a lot of thought, my family and I have decided that this is the right time for me to step away from the game," Dempsey said in statement following the team announcement. "I'd like to thank all of the teammates, coaches and support staff that I've worked with throughout my career. It has always been my dream to make it as a pro. I'm grateful to have been on this ride."

Clint Dempsey has seen his role diminished by the Sounders' acquisition of Peruvian international Raul Ruidiaz back in June. Dempsey will take some time away from the game while he contemplates his next move. MLS is forever thankful he returned when he did, in 2013 whilst at the peak of his powers.

NFL teams across the league need to trim their active rosters from 90 players to 53 by Saturday's 4 pm ET deadline, which means more than 1,000 players will be released by week's end. As the deadline approaches, several big name players could also be traded - such as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who the New York Jets traded to the New Orleans Saints today.

According to Sports Illustrated's Michael Silver, the Saints will send a third round pick to the Jets in exchange for Bridgewater and a sixth round pick.

Minnesota selected Bridgewater out of Louisville with the 32nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and after a Pro Bowl season in 2015, in which the Vikings went 11-5, he looked ready to take another step forward in 2016. However, a non contact knee injury kept him out of action for that entire season. While Bridgewater was healthy enough to be on the Vikings roster last year, the consistent play of Case Keenum kept the former first round pick on the sidelines.

The Jets signed the 25-year old QB to a one-year $5 million deal back in March, after missing out on the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes and weeks before selecting their QB of the future, Sam Darnold, with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. New York also brought back veteran QB Josh McCown, who completed 67.3% of his passes for 2,926 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 13 games last season. With three QBs on the roster, it was always assumed that Bridgewater was likely to be the odd man out.

As a result of today's move, the Jets essentially announced that 21-year old rookie Sam Darnold will be the team's starting QB for the 2018-19 season. New York kicks off their season on Monday night, September 10, in Detroit. That game, airing on ESPN, is scheduled to kickoff at 7:10pm ET.

The season three finale of Comedy Central's "Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle" featured a trash-talking showdown between Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin, and the man himself, Jeff Ross.

Three Nigerian men nabbed in Thailand for allegedly running romance scam

Three Nigerian men and their Thai female accomplices have been arrested over involvement in a multi-milkion baht romance scams in Thailand.  

 

Briefing journalists during a news conference at the werkend, Thai Crime buster Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakpal gave the names of the Nigerian suspects as Oli Ifeanyi, Samson Orji and Orubor Kingsley Nosa.

 

 

 

 

They have been variously charged with fraud and illegal entry after their scamming activities.

The men had used social media to trick Thai women into wiring money to them.  

 

Victims were swindled by as little as 30,000 baht and as much as 2 million baht after they were promised gold, money and jewelry.

The Thai women are 34 year old Surairat Sapsang and Kanyaphat Bunlam, 26.

 

The arrests followed a complaint filed with Muang police station in Kamphaeng Phet province with damage worth about 35,000 baht, and another complaint filed with Muang police station in Rayong province, with 79,500 baht in damage.

 

 

 

Surachate, known as Big Joke in the Thai media - was leading a police task force known as TACTICS - Thailand's ACtion Taskforce for Information technology Crime Suppression.

 

Police from Beung Kam, Phayathai, Patthalung, Phuket and Rayong were involved.

Former England footballer, Gary Mabutt hospitalized after rats ate his legs in South Africa

Former England and Tottenham defender Gary Mabbutt said a rat ate part of his foot while he was asleep on holiday in South Africa.

The 57-year-old was forced to fly back to the UK for surgery and spent a week in hospital. Mabbutt, who has 16 caps for England, has type 1 diabetes and has little feeling in his feet.

The incident happened six weeks ago when he was visiting his daughter, who is working at the Kruger National Park. "I've gone to sleep and during the night a rat has come into the bedroom, climbed into the bed and has decided to chew on my foot," he said.

"It's made quite a big hole in my toe, going down to the bone, and ate underneath my foot. It bit my daughter's thumb first in the other bedroom, and then she came into me and said 'Dad, something's bitten me'. Being in Africa, you think of snakes and scorpions."

About an hour later, Mabbutt felt a bite on a thumb while sleeping, then saw his foot was covered in blood. "Unfortunately the rat had had a nice meal and I hadn't been able to feel it," he said.

Mabbutt said he still needs daily hospital treatment for his injuries. Despite being told at the age of 17 that he would have to give up football, Mabbutt played 611 games in a 16-year Tottenham career. He said he injects insulin seven times per day, and tests his blood 10 times per day. In 2016, he almost lost a leg and had to have emergency surgery because of blocked arteries. He can no longer run or kick a ball.

Two South African women who kidnapped and burnt schoolgirl to death over a man, sentenced to 18 and 14 years

The two women who kidnapped and doused Boitumelo Dlamini with petrol before setting her alight in an apparent jealous fight over a boyfriend will be sentenced to 14 and 18 years respectively. 

 

Cynthia Mosupi and Sharon Twala (pictured crying in court today) were found guilty of kidnapping and murdering the 18-year-old from Elatsa Secondary School in Lethlabile, near Brits in North West in 2015.

 

The pair were found guilty in September 2017.

 

Mosupi was sentenced to 18 years in jail while Twala was handed down 14 years for the role she played in the murder.

 

They were both sentenced to five years imprisonment to run concurrently with the murder sentences.

 

While handing down the sentence, Judge Tshifiwa Maumela said the pair would not have been caught for the murder if Mosupi had not sustained burn wounds during the time the crime was committed.

 

“The evidence shows the accused positioned themselves at the gate of the school in such way that accused would not have been able to see them when the deceased exited the school.

 

Accused number 2 told court that they were determined not to be detected by the teachers. They did not wish to leave behind a trail of evidence,” Judge Maumela said.

 

He said video footage of the incident showed that Dlamini was helpless and did not fight back when the accused proceeded to assault her before setting her alight.

 

“What this court observed is that the deceased was helpless and sounded highly frightened when the accused carried out the offense. Further than that, the court noticed that the deceased was subjected to naked torture with no show of mercy.”

 

“In the video clip the deceased can be heard saying she will stay away from the father of Mosupi’s child. But they failed to show mercy. Despite her pleas, Mosupi doused petrol on her and set her alight,” Judge Maumela said.

 

“When they arrived at the cemetery Mosupi and Twala dragged her out of the vehicle and slapped her. Tried tying her to a tree but failed.”

 

 

 

Dlamini was killed because Mosupi was angered by her romantic involvement with the father of her child.

 

In their previous court appearance, Mosupi’s lawyer, Paulos Motsweni told the court that his client was not in the right frame of mind when she committed the crime as she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
