The coat created in response to Melania Trump wearing one that read “I really don’t care, do u?” on a plane to visit detained migrant children raised a ton of money for charity.
Wildfang, who created the “I really care, don’t u?” jacket last week after seeing the First Lady’s tone-deaf fashion choice, tells The Blast that the company raised $250,000 in just a few days after debuting the items.
“I’m an immigrant, there are other immigrants on the team and it touched our team in a deeply profound way,” Wildfang’s CEO Emma McIlroy tells The Blast. “When the image of Melania came out, it felt like an insult to injury.”
The feminist clothing line featured their version of FLOTUS’s coat with the updated message, as well as a t-shirt, hoodie and a bomber jacket. The items sold out like wildfire and 100% of the proceeds are being donated to RAICES.
RAICES is a nonprofit in Texas that provides free or low-cost legal services to aid migrant families with immigration proceedings. In the last week or so, people have donated close to $15 million to the organization in response to the Trump Administration’s controversial zero-tolerance immigration policy.
Wildfang, whose line of trendy clothes is tailored to today’s modern feminist, is a favorite of celebs like Miley Cyrus, Ellen Page, Kate Mara and Evan Rachel Wood.
