The 1996 ‘Independence Day’ Premiere is Why We Love ‘Murica

Will, Jada Smith

It’s been 22 years since President Thomas J. Whitmore inspired the nation – nay – the world with an emotional speech before kicking alien butt while Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith gave an intergalactic mothership “a cold.”
The premiere of “Independence Day” on July 2nd, 1996 exemplifies *exactly* what we love about this great nation: movies, sunglasses at night, Will Smith.
All the biggest stars of the decade were there … Arsenio HallCher and even Sharon Stone.
The red carpet for the premiere is just what you want it to be and so, so much more.
We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We’re going to live on!
We’re going to survive!
Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!
